Hello! My name is Tabita. I am lots of things; student of the world, tree-climber, poem writer, storyteller, maker of things, big sky dreamer, humble traveler, friend.

I started taking pictures when I was fifteen. I took one class and thought I knew everything after that, as one does! I fell in love with all of the possible photographs that were out there in the world, waiting to be taken. I found out how to take "good" pictures by taking lots of "bad" ones. I kept learning. (I still am!)

I graduated from an incredible homeschooling high school experience in 2018. I took a gap year and am carrying it on, at least for a little while, into a gap life. This is a decision that I made some time ago, with deep intention and excitement. That's the beauty of a self-directed, self-motivated educational experience: it doesn't end when you graduate. I spent my high school years learning to learn; to teach myself to follow my interests towards deeper knowledge, to trust my own capacity for growth. In the same way that a bird outgrows the nest where it learned the practice of flight, adulthood for me is simply the realm in which I get to spread my proverbial wings. My entire life is my classroom now.

My photographic work often focuses on abstract forms and creative portraiture. I've taken photographs for Essex Art Center in Lawrence, MA.

I'm based in Massachusetts, where I grew up, but home to me is made up of many places and many different faces. Whenever I can, I go wandering in the world. When I am in my hometown, I work on a local farm. I can often be found outside in my spare time, giving my attention to the natural world. I'm interested in anthropology and other mediums through which we can uncover our many human stories. (If I ever decide to go to a traditional college, it will probably be for something like that.) I love so many things in the world! Wildflower meadows, bike rides, Mary Oliver poems and good meals made with love are some of them.

If you want me to take your picture, send me an email! Sometimes I will be doing fun things like going to South America and leaving my phone behind, but I will probably respond sooner rather than later! If you have any kind of adventure proposition, send me two emails. I'll get back to you in no time.

Love,

Tabita
